Clothes Whorse?

I did it. Today I dared to delve into my mounds and mounds of clothes. Just like on TV I separated keepers, giveaways, clothes that needed mending, and my own special category: I'm not sure if it's clean or dirty so I better wash it.

As I start getting organized I realize that I have A LOT of great clothes! They don't all fit now, but I'm even more inspired to continue with P90X after today's "re-finds".

I gathered two giant gray contractor bags full of giveaways and I'm feeling really good about myself because I've decided that all my suits can go to Dress for Success to help women find jobs. I've pared down from 6 plain white long sleeve shirts to 4. Feelin' pretty good about myself.

Then I start putting the keepers away.

I quickly realize that I STILL don't have enough closet space. What's a girl to do? Run off to Target to pick up organizers. So I've got a basket for my bins, and bins for my bins. Hooks and hangers and cubbies and I am about to check-out when I am frozen solid by 2 questions.

Do I really not have a big enough closet? or is it that I STILL have too much stuff?

And that's where I'm at. I left Target with nothing because I couldn't help but wrestle with whether or not I was in the act of "building a bigger storehouse".

No resolution yet. No answer to the question. If anything it raises more questions.

I know that I don't love my clothes more than Jesus. I know that giving away more clothes doesn't make me more "Jesusy". So I'm just going to sift through again and wait for The Lord to reveal to me the lesson of the Clothes Whorse. Keep you posted.

25ish Random Things About Me

So here's the list. 25ish random things about me. Enjoy!

1. I pray often for the Lord to show me pieces of Eden. To me the world is muted. I long for and cherish the moments that Jesus shows me the colors that he intended the world to be painted with.

2. My favorite number is three. I even love the way a "3" looks.

3. I really enjoy wrapping gifts, I mean REALLY enjoy it. I have rules that I follow and I adhere to them pretty strictly: it has to be in a box, you need at least two kinds of wrap for a package, I only use gloss finish tape, and MOST IMPORTANTLY... it's not finished until it's tied up with a real fabric ribbon.

4. The thing I love most about my amazing husband is that he makes me laugh every single day.

5. There are a few words I cannot stand. No, it's not just that I don't like them. They FREAK ME OUT. Top of the list: moist, succulent, and blazer. Ew.

6. Every year I miss seeing the aspen trees turn color as fall arrives. When I was growing up in Colorado my family took many drives through the mountains each year just to see the fiery red, orange and gold foliage.

7. Every year from the time I was 1 to 16 my mom made me a chocolate cake with pink frosting for my birthday. From scratch. All of it.

8. My favorite Christmas gift from childhood was Eleroo. He was a Wuzzle! Half elephant, half kangaroo, purple, orange, and pink with tiny wings... weird... just like me!

9. I really don't enjoy chocolate as a flavor by itself.

10. I collect animals of all shapes and sizes from the places that I visit. A wooden giraffe from Guatemala, a welded metal ant from New Orleans, a springy turtle from Mexico to name a few. They have all come to our home so that the giant metal chicken we got as a wedding gift won't have to live alone.

11. When in a meeting or classroom setting, if I'm not doodling you can be sure that I'm not listening.

12. My third grade teacher told my parents that she thought I would grow up to be a trial lawyer because of my love for words and my unrelenting powers of negotiation

13. Some days I see how long I can make it just using movie quotes to communicate.

14. The grossest thing I can remember doing as a kid: Packing a metal Strawberry Shortcake lunch box full of dead leaves & water and then placing it on a shelf in my closet for .... well however long it takes to mold and then smell up my room, leading my mom on a hunt for what smelled to her like a dead animal.

15. Decor is in my blood. In a set of records I have from my biological mother I found that she earned a degree in textiles from a fashion college and that she had a "great love of color and texture". Amazingly, I didn't discover this info until I was about 21 years old, well after I had already discovered my own passion for the same things.

16. I studied piano from ages 5-16. I gave it up because I wasn't doing it for me. I started playing again because I realize now that I enjoy playing for Him.

17. For me everything is better when nothing matches.

18. When I was in high school I wanted to be an anthropologist. I enjoy studying people.

19. I am enraged by the injustice suffered by orphans. To write more now will only render me unable to finish my list.

20. I think it's sad that somewhere most people come to believe that they cannot draw. Can you draw like DaVinci, me neither. But gun to the head if I asked you to draw a bunny, you could do it. I want to know who told you you couldn't.

21. Fall is my favorite season. The crisp air reminds me of falling in love with my husband.

22. My way of dealing with sadness, pain, and especially discomfort, is to make jokes about it. Right or wrong... smiles make the room lighter.

23. I heart South Park

24. I am fascinated by forensics. Specifically forensic psychology.

25. At 11 years old my Big Bird cake won me the title of Grand Champion at the 4-H fair. That same year I was named the Reserve Grand Champion of Microwave Cooking for my public cooking demonstration. To make the visual even better, for the demonstration I wore a lime green gingham apron and matching hair bow that I made all by myself.

26. I don't like being called a crafter. I'm an artist. For all those times that I just "do that thing" and rig stuff together I'd prefer to be thought of as a MacGyver not a Martha Stewart.

27. I believe that coloring outside the lines is essential for a happy life, especially if it scares you.
